I must be an O! That was the most probable result as all of my other siblings are O, a token from our father’s blood line. Boy, was I wrong and because I did not decide to look for any tests that would help me to find out for certain, so began my journey into blood type diets. Completely on the wrong foot, I might add.
First let me share a little information in regards to the different blood types:
(Purchase your at home test for blood type and learn a bit more in depth about the different Types of diets based on blood type, I would recommend reading Dr. Peter J. D’Adamo’s book “Eat right 4 your type”)
Type O:
Known as the hunter, these people typically have hard digestive tracts but it is perfect for digesting heavy foods, such as red meat. The best responders to stress, they can have a positive mood when exercised with vigorous activity. Must also absolutely avoid all dairy products at all costs as this can be the root cause of many ailments for them. Type Os hold the very first memory of DNA of human existence, of course they were the original and first to be cultivated. If you were to look back at ancient times, man was capable of eating food over long periods of time. Hunting was the first method in which they gathered their food. This hostile environment made for Type Os to be able to exert a lot of physical exercise on limited portions of heavy food, i.e., red meat. The Type O blood is also seen to not be able to coagulate so well compare to other blood types and this made for many women to perish during child birth. Easily able to get infected as well, but their immune systems are strong, not allowing themselves to catch a flu or virus, but once they do, it can feel life threatening. Again, looking back to our ancestors, they carry that memory from so long ago, even if today’s society has shifted and changed, the code still holds on to the past. Most of the population has this type of blood.

Type A:
Known as the cultivator and as the first vegetarian, this blood type came about to being almost the complete opposite of the O Types. Having a more sensitive digestive tract, their immune system is more malleable and capable of creating antibodies much more quickly than its predecessor. Can flourish in health, with light exercises and food cultivated from the earth. This Type also does not do so well with dairy products, can irritate the sensitive digestive tract. My theory for this mutation to occur in the DNA had to do with extinction. Type Os mainly survived off of hunting animals for meat, but once man created a system in which they were able to hunt successfully with less fatality, they began to dwindle their food supply. And so came about the gatherers. Cultivating grains from the soil and not needing to consume red meats, the A types began to help create community and partnership between groups. Type As are able to be fully satisfied with vegetables and grains, not really needing to incorporate meats often. This blood type is also able to coagulate much quicker, but can be one of the best environments for parasites.

Type B:
Known as the nomad, these types have a much more balanced immune system, the digestive system is capable of tolerating most anything, even dairy products. To harbor a healthy lifestyle these Types must find a balance between physical and mental activity. Type Bs are seen to be chameleonlike in how this system is capable of mimicking the Type Os but the system can shift and change to another one entirely. One major note they have in common with Type Os is that their digestive systems do not do so well with gluten. This can disrupt their balanced digestive tract and begin a lot of health issues for them. This second mutation in the DNA seemed to be more resistant to outside sources, but can be more prone to auto immune disorders. Only 9% of the population is this Type.

Type AB:
Known as the enigma, this type is seen to be the merging of the Type A and Type B bloods. Can be prone to having sensitive digestive tracts like its Type A predecessor, the diet for this blood type is very unique and can be considered an evolutionary mystery. Much more rare in society and taking about 2% to 5% of the population. These systems vary depending on each person. There will be hardly any two Type AB’s that will react the same to foods. At times their digestive system can act like the Type A system and others it can take on more of the Type B system. Type AB’s are rare and can be seen more like a mix or centaur of the Type A and B systems. Very new in the evolutionary path!

Now with those snippets of information you can take note that each blood type is different and carries its own genetic coding that governs how the body may run. Believing I was an O I began to do the Type O diet, consuming red meats and certain vegetables. For about 3 months strictly going through the diet, I found myself feeling worse off, much heavier and more lethargic. Completely ignoring my body’s cravings for grains. Once I decided to do the at home test, I was confirmed that my blood type was completely different, I am a Type A.
Jumping with joy I then gave myself the leisure of consuming the grains and legumes I craved so much, completely letting go of all red meat for a good time thereafter. From there I noticed I was reacting better. My digestive system began to flow much more easily, a lot of the puffiness I was experiencing was subsiding and I stopped gaining weight. It truly was a great experience and one where I began to learn a bit more about myself, not just on a DNA level but also on a personal one. I highly recommend everyone to read Dr. Peter J. D’Adamo’s book “Eat right 4 your type. It goes much more in detail with each blood type, providing history, healthy options, exercise tips, things to look out for, and ultimately may shine a light on why you react to certain environments.
